Maggie Smith's most famous role as the inspirational and upstanding, but fascist, elitist school-ma'am won her an Oscar in 1969. Her outspoken teaching methods, loved by her 'gels' (the creme de la creme), lead her into confrontation with the stuffy head of school and, ultimately, to her downfall. Superb drama.
