A cult horror from the early eighties, which is a triumph of imagination over budget. A young New Yorker, Duane, checks into a seedy hotel, his most important possession a wicker basket. Its not long before we find out that the basket has an occupant, Duane's horribly deformed brother Belial, who is obsessed with wreaking vengeance on the doctors responsible for his predicament, and anyone else who might happen to be in the vicinity. Grotesque, ghoulish, disturbing, poignant and at times hilarious, Basket case's tiny budget simply seems to enhance the atmosphere of the movie. A monstrously effective ham-fest of a horror.
