Hal Hartley is rapidly approaching Jim Jarmusch status as a director of witty, unusual character studies. Simple Men is no exception, the story of two brothers, one an inveterate crook, the other a clean-cut college boy as they search New Jersey for their erstwhile father. Intense, funny, superb.
