Lucy F-D says: "Mallory Kane (Gina Carano) is a toughex-black ops soldier employed and double-crossed by a multi-national agency inthis narrative-light but star-heavy action movie from Steven Soderbergh. GinaCarano, a former Mixed Martial Arts champion, starring in her first featurefilm (a fact made much of when the film was released) is partnered by a longlist of male stars (Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, AntonioBanderas, Michael Douglas, Bill Paxton), but is certainly the main attractionfor her dynamic physicality which makes up for the flatness of the film as awhole. Soderbergh’s direction pays good attention to the fight sequences,eschewing the highly edited moving camera style ubiquitous to modern actioncinema, but other elements of his style (‘cool’ music, clunky narrative devices)seem to be in tension with the pleasures of the action."
