Michael Ruppert, writer of 'Crossing the Rubicon: The Decline of the American Empire at the End of the Age of Oil', other vital tomes and creator of fromthewilderness.com, makes it to the big screen! The ex-LAPD officer continues his apocalyptic warnings as to the dangerous dependence of our civilisation on oil and our unpreparedness for its imminent decline in production. Although his arguments lack an ideological cohesiveness, his partial and incisive understandings of how capitalism works and his knowledge of the impending fossil fuels crash lead to a frightening apocalyptic scenario.
If one is to be critical of the film, itself a diversion from the original purpose of investigating US government complicity in the drugs trade, it is that 'Collapse' becomes more of a pen portrait of Ruppert the man (a Cassandralike prophet of doom or paranoid sociopath?) than a rigorous examination of the looming energy crisis.
Michael has worked for free for years and his current financial hardships would be helped if you ordered a copy of the highly readable 'Crossing the Rubicon' from your book supplier.
