Set in the deadbeat town of the title, three young working-class lads, cock-of-the-town wannabe Bruce, clownish nerd Snork and apprentice life insurance salesman Freddie, and one young lady, Julie, daughter of slimy life insurance salesman boss Mr Kendrick, are all on the cusp of adulthood. All have limited and unappealing futures and face a life defining decision... to stay or not to stay?
The 70s are lovingly and accurately recreated, the characters English and the script both tight and witty. If I may criticise then some characters develop little, some are troweled on and the film evolves into a fairly straightforward studio-type romance, but nevertheless it`s an enjoyable and satisfying diversion.
