It's the 1970s and Jackie Moon is the unlikely crooner behind a Barry White-esque disco groove called ‘Love Me Sexy'. With the money he's made Jackie buys second-rate local baseball team 'The Tropics' and while his team may be facing the chop Jackie fights their axing with an increasingly surreal, and largely unsuccessful, series of publicity stunts (the boxing match with a bear being one of the highlights). There are some moments of bizarre comic genius in "Semi-Pro", but this ain't no ‘Anchorman', more of a ‘stoner' or ‘just got back from the pub' flick, though there's no denying Will Ferrell can drag a laugh from the most un-promising of scenarios.
