Review
In 2002 Cedric Klapisch made L'Auberge Espagnole', an entertaining comedy drama that revolved around an assortment of internationals sharing a flat in Barcelona. 'Russian Dolls' sees the writer-director revisit some of the characters, who have become older, but not wiser, in the intervening five years. Once again Frenchman Xavier takes centre-stage; his career, as a sell-out screenwriter, disappointing and his love life increasingly tangled. Dividing his time amongst a gaggle of gorgeous girls, Xavier struggles with the grim reality of hitting 30 and facing a future with neither love nor purpose in his life. 'Russian Dolls' is another ultimately joyous celebration of life complete with all its fears and frailties.
