The Night Of Truth was conceived in memory of director Fanta Regina Nacro's uncle, accused of inciting a coup, and subsequently murdered. Set in an unnamed African country, events occur after a bitter civil war between the ruling Nayak tribe and their rivals, the Bonandes, who, ten years prior, had attempted a military coup. Now a truce has finally been agreed and a conciliatory feast is to be held in the Bonande quarters. But as the night of the feast draws ever closer, memories, reservations and anxieties begin to surface in the minds of all concerned.
