A beautiful young woman seeks advise from a psychiatrist to help with her failing marriage, but in her confusion wanders into the office of William Faber, a financial adviser. Lacking the courage, and indeed the desire, to admit to the woman that he is not a therapist, William finds himself increasingly drawn to this intimate stranger, and as their sessions continue an unusual relationship develops between the two.
