A frustrated, highly strung, spectacularly unsuccessful puppeteer inadvertently finds a passage way into the mind of John Malkovich and, uniquely skilled as he is in the art of manipulation, this seems like the perfect opportunity to escape his dead-end life and dull wife. There is little point in trying to explain the story further, you'll just have to watch this fantastically surreal, absurd, dark, gobsmackingly original comedy - the brainchild of a quite obviously seriously warped puppy. An audaciously accomplished directorial debut from writer and leading man Vincent Gallo. Recently released from prison for a crime he didn't commit, Billy Brown (Gallo) decides to head for the family homestead, where his parents believe their son's been away building a brilliant career. In order to keep up the pretence the socially inept loner needs a girlfriend, so he kidnaps one - Layla - and marches her back to meet his dysfunctional folks. What follows is a brilliantly cringeworthy portrait find out more...

The 'City of God' is a slum town within the confines of Rio De Janeiro and a place of such casual and seemingly infinite brutality that no one but its residents ever venture within its borders. Rocket is one young man who has made a conscious decision to escape his 'home town' and it is through his eyes that we view this mesmerizing vision of a society where violence and the ruthlessness to use it have run amok. 'City Of God' is a truly awesome film, a heart pounding journey, with relentless pac find out more...

A brilliant movie from the same director as "Stranger Than Paradise". Our three low-life heroes escape from jail into the Louisiana swamps and find that they might have been better off inside. Off-beat, very stylish, funny and just brilliant! find out more...

An excellent black comedy, handsome thriller and a tall story that keeps you guessing as it unwinds. The genuinely ridiculous plot (a man pays a couple of goons to 'pretend' to kidnap his wife in order to get his paws on his in-laws' 'ransom' money) is completely credible as mighty plans fall apart, spiralling ever more beyond the protagonist's control and leaving us marvelling at the complex stupidity of human nature. A modern classic.

A death obssessed teenager and a 79 year old woman who lives life to the full gang up together in one of the wittiest black comedies ever made. An inventive, enduring classic which was far ahead of its time. You mean you haven't seen it? find out more...

Playing against time, like Memento, this is a gut wrenching exploration of an horrific act of indiscriminate brutality and the vicious revenge that is its consequence. Irreversible is an exceptionally powerful movie and one of the most disturbing pieces of cinema I've ever seen (the tortuously protracted rape scene would have Ghandi screaming for the death penalty). Awesome....but you have been warned. find out more...
