Charlton Heston is the only (normal) survivor of an apocalyptic plague that has destroyed mankind. A band of mutants calling themselves the 'Family' believe science and technology to be the cause of the plague. Neville (Heston), as the last symbol of the old world of science, is seen as a threat to the new order.
