Elizabeth is a teacher; she drinks, she gets high, she hates her pupils and she can’t wait to marry her meal ticket and get out of her bogus day job. This knowing teen flick brings Hawthorn'e The Scarlet Letter to the Facebook generation. Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson relish their roles as Californian-to-the-max parents while the man candy is provided by Gossip Girl's Penn Badgley. At times the film tries too hard to be audacious and falls flat, at others it shows flashes of brilliant comedy. A mixed bag of good intentions.
