A frustrated, highly strung, spectacularly unsuccessful puppeteer inadvertently finds a passage way into the mind of John Malkovich and, uniquely skilled as he is in the art of manipulation, this seems like the perfect opportunity to escape his dead-end life and dull wife. There is little point in trying to explain the story further, you'll just have to watch this fantastically surreal, absurd, dark, gobsmackingly original comedy - the brainchild of a quite obviously seriously warped puppy. A family reunion is the setting for this dark and inventive film from Denmark. When the eldest son gives a speech for his father, Helge's sixtieth birthday, Helge and the guests are taken aback by what they hear. There's also a missing daughter and a party of revellers keen to pretend the speech never happened! The fantastic cinematography from Lars von Triers as well as the richly textured plot makes this a unique film. Highly recommended. find out more...

Following the success of his indie debut "Welcome To The Dollhouse" Todd Solondz has created another dark and decidedly uncomfortable film. Whilst the title may suggest this is a light-hearted comedy, be warned that it is anything but. This is a film about the depraved and depressing lives of a bunch of unlikeable characters. Loosely centred around three sisters, it cleverly follows their bizarre relationships, encounters and failures. Solondz is establishing a reputation for intelligent scripts find out more...
HUNGER (2007)

Bobby Sands was the IRA member who led the 1981 Long Kesh hunger strike as part of a campaign to achieve the status of political prisoners and not that of criminals. The first section of film deals with daily prison life, the 'dirty' protest and the violence, the second is a long discussion on the meaning of life with a sympathetic priest and the third depicts the last weeks and death of a man voluntarily dying of starvation. find out more...

A brilliant horror film with Mia Farrow as the mother, pregnant for the first time, living in an ageing New York apartment block and surrounded by a weird bunch of neighbours. Mostly alone and increasingly paranoid she becomes convinced they form a witch's coven with designs on her baby. Superb.

In this follow-up to his critical success Read My Lips, Jacques Audiard has adapted and updated James Toback's cult 1978 noir Fingers to come up with this memorable character study about a young man torn between a life of crime and classical music. Romain Duris, in a standout performance, portrays the 28-year-old Tom who seems destined to follow in his amoral father's footsteps as a Parisian property shark taking work in a sleazy and sometimes brutal milieu. However, a chance encounter with h find out more...

Andrea steps off a bus into a strange city, with no memory of how he got there. It all seems familiar; people are polite, go to work, have dinner parties, go out and have sex, but no one seems to connect or enjoy themselves. It isn't long before Andreas marries attractive interior designer Anne Britt and as the pair settle into a comfortable, if emotionally vacant, routine, the newly arrived citizen starts to question why everyone and everything seems so superficial; an observation that has not find out more...
