BLACKPOOL: DISC 2 (2004)
Certification15 Our Rating
This darkly comic tale of greed, love, ambition, murder and family continues as Ripley Holden, a charismatic family man with a dark past, begins to witness his hard won empire crumble around him and the loyalty of his family begin to fall away. Dennis Potter-esque in it's mix of genre and tone, this is a top quality tv production. One minute your watching a dodgy drug deal go down and seconds later the ensemble are performing a Smiths number.

BLADE RUNNER (ORIGINAL) (1982)
Certification15 Our Rating
A stunning visual account of man's struggle for survival in the 21st Century, a time when replicant life forms are beginning to surpass humans not just in intelligence but emotions, raising questions about our concepts of self. A post-modern sci-fi classic, THE great Hollywood movie of the '80s, the last great pre-computer film done with smoke-and-mirrors SFX and the definitive cult arthouse Sci-Fi film. BLOOD SIMPLE (1985)

A brilliant and highly rated thriller made in the Hitchcock mold. A hard-nosed businessman hires a low life private eye to murder his wife and the lover she's run off with, but the assassin has plans of his own. Ingenious, superbly original, satisfyingly convoluted and excruciatingly tense. A must-see.

'Baby Bogart' or 'Bugsy Malone The Sequel'? Young teens act out the roles of our classic noir favourites, Sam Spade et al, against a backdrop of a daylight open-spaced LA suburbia. Sorry, but I just can't buy young high school kids acting out these roles.....ergo the answer is 'Bugsy Malone The Sequel'...but please make your own mind up.

CHINATOWN (1974)

Polanski has a go at the film noir detective thriller, very bleak, very twisted and very menacing it is to. Nicholson plays a private-eye in pre-war LA who is hired to pursue an adultery case, but finds himself embroiled in a complicated murder investigation.

CONFESSIONS OF A DANGEROUS MIND (2002)
Certification15 Our Rating
George Clooney has put his thumb into the directorial pie and pulled out a plum. Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind is based on the fantasy novel of Chuck Barris, TV producer cum CIA assassin, played in the film by the grubbily handsome Sam Rockwell. Clooney deals with the ramblings of a delusional solipsist and adopts a surreal, almost Lynch-like style for the proceedings. This adds to the general feeling of disorientation as the story flits from television studios to Russian detention centres wit

Richard escaped the depressed small town of his birth by joining the army, in doing so he also rescinded responsibility for his naive and simple brother Anthony, inadvertently placing the defenceless lad into the hands of Sonny, a sadistic local drug kingpin. Seven years later Richard has returned, his only focus revenge, now well equipped to exact it and teetering on the edge of sanity. Dead Man's Shoes is a brutal, hypnotic tale, which tears along at a breathless pace thanks in large part to P
