Joe Cornish (of 'Adam & Joe' near-fame) pulls a blinder in his directorial debut: a fine monster movie, imbued with wry humour and disarming pathos. The efficient plot involves a teen gang in South London defending their block from an alien invasion, after encountering (and brutalising) one of the invaders. The eponymous block becomes a strong character in its own right, resplendent in drizzle, sodium yellow streetlights and piss-stained lifts, and this familiarity provides the source for much o find out more...
CRITTERS (1986)

A massive ball of furry creatures from another world eat their way through a small mid-western town followed by intergalactic bounty hunters opposed only by militant townspeople. Displaying a deft talent at balancing thrills with tongue-in-cheek wit, this was Stephen Herek's debut film. He followed it up with the bodacious 'Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure' and 'Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead'. A superior creature feature, that may have you tucking your feet onto the sofa out of harms way. find out more...

The director of 'Razor Blade Smile' is back with this tale of bloodthirsty xenomorphs running amok on an isolated island off of the coast of Wales. Real-life 'Shock Movie Massacre' host Emily Booth plays a television reporter out to save her show from dwindling ratings by investigating the story of a local girl who claims to have been abducted and inpregnated by visitors from another planet. Along for the ride are her erstwhile camera and sound guys, a pair of actors (and I use the term loosely find out more...

A comet hurtles into the earth, but rather than being dead rock it begins to evolve at a fantastical pace (while taking some serious liberties with Darwinism) and only two rather inept college professors seem to have any idea how to stop the alien life form before it takes over the world. Evolution is Si-Fi, action, comedy which concentrates on wit of the lowest common denominator, but as long as you're fine with that, sit back, giggle a bit and enjoy the spectacular special effects. find out more...

In the radioactive wasteland of the future, Sam Hell is one of the last fertile men on the planet. A female organization intent on repopulating Earth kidnaps Sam and sends him on a deadly mission to rescue, and impregnate, a group of beautiful women held captive by the violent bipedal amphibian leader of Frogtown. If the synopsis isn't enough to convince you to watch this awesome cult hit, I might add that Rowdy Roddy Piper is in it and fights a lot. With frogs. A must-see. find out more...

'J' is back in black and in the intervening years he's become pretty much as anally obsessive as his old partner 'K', but when the world is threatened by intergalactic nastiness you couldn't wish for a more effective arse kicker.... except perhaps 'K' himself. Dragged out of retirement the elder statesman of men in black joins his old partner in some wise cracking butt whoopin'. Men in Black II is entertaining eye candy that moves at a pretty frantic pace, but unlike the original this is a serie find out more...
