Al Gore finds life after the politically crushing embarrassment that was his tenure as vice president and, frankly, it's unlikely he will experience another point as high as his achievement in this profound, engaging and, mercifully, clear documentary on the consequences of our complacent greed. That ‘An Inconvenient Truth' provides little in the way of true revelations pertaining to the earth's (humanity's) looming ecological demise, and ignores some of the more profound problems of trapped car

BUS 174 (2002)
Certification15 Our Rating
This documentary details the tragic events in Rio de Janeiro on June 12th 2000 when an armed young man, Sandro do Nascimento, desperately boards a bus and threatens to kill the passengers. A sympathetic, even-handed treatment of a disturbing and genuinely upsetting tale. Consisting of interviews with relatives of survivors and friends and family of Sandro himself, with extensive footage from Brazilian TV broadcasters, many of whom filmed the terrible event in its totality... Heavy stuff.

MAN ON WIRE (2008)

A pretty exhaustive documentary that looks back at what some have described as "the artistic crime of the century": tightrope walker Philippe Petit's death defying, utterly illegal, high-wire routine performed between New York City's World Trade Centre's twin towers in 1974. A fascinating and gripping look at a meticulously planned and breathtaking act of defiance.

A great documentary about the legendary New York Cosmos. Financed by Warner billionaire Steve Ross a football team who played on a cabbage patch, they painted the pitch green for Pele's arrival and first game!!!, went on to sign an international class team and draw crowds of over 50,000 a game in the short lived North American Soccer League. It was a big expensive roller-coaster, girls, parties and booze, and Cosmos' eventual collapse brought down the whole league and set back US soccer about 20

ONE DAY IN SEPTEMBER (2007)
Certification15 Our Rating
An Oscar winning documentary that works as well as any big-screen drama. During the 1972 Munich Olympics a militant Palestinean group entered the athletes' village and took 11 Israeli athletes hostages. What followed was a catalogue of errors that, if the event had not ended so tragically, makes this one of the finest black comedies ever made. The Keystone cop mentality of the Munich police has to be seen and heard to be believed - truth is stranger than fiction. A must watch.

SPELLBOUND (2003)
CertificationU Our Rating
On one level it's terrifying, another tragic, but there's no denying it's utterly hypnotic. A hall seething with demonic young children obsessed with the national spelling Bee competition, a cruel concept made all the more vicious by parental participation. Spellbound is a dazzling documentary, sad, funny, and like any particularly fine true story....almost unbelievable.

TAXI TO THE DARK SIDE (2007)
Certification15 Our Rating
Starting with the murder in an Afghan prison of an innocent taxi-driver by American soldiers, this brilliant documentary outlines the lines of command from Cheney and Rumsfeld down to those on the front line. We learn about the techniques of torture and who authorised which methods. We hear about some of the history of CIA torture methods, the irrelevance of torture to extracting information and its use as a weapon of terror and political posturing by those in power in Washington.
