Homer Smith, an itinerant handyman, is driving through the Arizona desert when he meets five impoverished nuns. In an isolated spot in the Nevada desert people and cars start getting sucked down into the ground with little bits being regurgitated, so what's going on? It seems like mutant man-eating worms are on the loose. Vastly superior to the fifties B-movies of the same genre, highlights include a survivalist couple determined to put their cache of heavy weaponry to some use, and the visceral special effects......you can almost smell the decaying flesh!
