George Romero's classic horror satire gets a rather more serious modern day makeover, resulting in a genuinely frightening addition to the zombie genre. The plot remains fairly true to the original, portraying a world where all the seats around Satan's dinner table have been filled, forcing the recently departed to walk the earth instead. Only this time they don't walk, see. They run. And it is this subtle change that moves this film from gory satire to an edge-of-the-futon suspense horror, as a find out more...

The story of "Demon" continues as a birthday party in a high-security apartment building (with bullet-proof windows) is interrupted when the birthday girl is transformed by a horror movie on TV into a demon. All hell breaks loose as the residents, unable to escape the building, are forced to battle their demonic zombie former neighbours. Very gorey with buckets of green demon-goo. find out more...

The most perverse Frankenstein flick ever. While the Baron's sister/wife gives the village stud a good going over in her boudoir, the man himself is carving up the locals to create two perfect zombies to spawn a master race. Incest, necrophilia and yards of technicolour entrails. Stomach-churning! find out more...

At last, the fourth installment of the zombiemeister's apocalyptic vision has the world under seige by the living dead and the last few human beings have holed themselves up within the walls of an unnamed city. Guillermo Del Toro's blockbusting tale of a young girl struggling to make sense of the violent world around her was a big 2006 arthouse hit. Continuing his exploration of the impact of the Spanish Civil War on his generation (it was also the backdrop for his excellent ghost story, The Devil's Backbone) Del Toro's fantasy mixes strong horror with fairytale-style aesthetics to great effect, making Ofelia's escape into an imaginary realm a poignant response to the cruel realities of her existence. find out more...

An experimental bio-weapon is released turning thousands of people into zombies and, as the multiplying horde of frenzied crazies approach, a dangerous outlaw named Wray, a sexy stripper named Cherry, an unscrupulous smuggler named Abby and the curiously incapacitated Dr Dakota Block, amongst others, must try to escape to a place untouched by the nightmare. The B-movie reinvented, "Planet Terror" is a considerably more successful attempt at homage to the American drive-in Grindhouse cinema than find out more...

A movie of two halves involving two incompetent brothers; the first, a comedy crime caper, has, in a primitive sort of way, very funny moments. In the second the duo, plus kidnapped foul-mouthed wench Tracey, hole up in a remote rural cottage, which, unfortunately, is inhabited by a family of cannibalistic, homicidal, in-bred farmers, and that's when the blood really starts to flow. 'The Cottage' is no masterpiece, but it's still good, gory fun. find out more...
