As a young pilot returns home in May 1945, a relationship is formed as he desperately contacts a radio operator before bailing out of the sky. He lives, evading his celestial escort, meets the aforementioned operator and falls in love. But he must face a heavenly court to decide if he should live or die. Amazing.

Controversial (on release) for using words such as 'semen' and 'panties' in order to aid its realism, and perhaps for it's very ambivalent position on the role of the law in achieving justice. Stewart plays a lawyer hired to defend Gazzara from the charge of murdering the man who allegedly raped his wife. Stylish, cool and brilliant!

One of the most spectacular epics of all time, even by the standards of Hollywood, the famous twenty minute chariot race alone took three months to shoot, and, along the way, Ben is given a helping hand and converted by Jesus. An unmissable slice of movie history. Won Best Picture at 1959 Academy Awards.

Nothing more can be said about this classic melodrama from the peak of the Hollywood studio-film era. Hardened cynic Bogart softens when he meets old flame Bergman who is now a refugee in neutral wartime Casablanca. Together they outwit the Germans... and of course there's that famous song. Watch this classic or some day you'll regret it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow...

Taylor is the bitchy wife of Newman, the favourite son, who is unable to face the responsibility of marriage, and Jack Carson connives for the favours of his dying father, superbly played by Burl Ives. Paul Newman revels in his role as the sassy and irreverent Luke Jackson, a rebellious prisoner, (sentenced for cutting the heads off parking meters one drunken night!), in one of Florida's notorious prison chain gangs. His refusal to conform wins him the respect of his fellow inmates, but, following the death of his mother, he decides to escape. Newman's role won critical acclaim and an Oscar nomination. A witty and well-observed film, with some very funny scenes, (see the boiled egg race!)
