The definitive 'Apocalypse Now' (as if the original wasn't pretty definitive) this has nearly an hour of extra footage fleshing out the surreal journey of our central protagonists and, though it brings the film to a whisker short of three and a half hours, much of it explains what happens to the eclectic characters we meet. 'Baby Bogart' or 'Bugsy Malone The Sequel'? Young teens act out the roles of our classic noir favourites, Sam Spade et al, against a backdrop of a daylight open-spaced LA suburbia. The characters are there, the script is there, the critics loved it and you, the viewers, rave about it. Sorry, but I just can't buy young high school kids acting out these roles.....ergo the answer is 'Bugsy Malone The Sequel'...but please make your own mind up.

A lavish Scorcese epic set in 70s Vegas. De Niro is typically charismatic as Ace, whose gambling empire brings him wealth, power and, ultimately, ruin. Pesci is satisfyingly psychotic regurgitating his "Goodfellas" gangster, but it's Stone who will break your heart as tortured ex-hooker Ginger. Superb.
