It's the height of hippiedom and this is the film which best captures the spirit of the era. A bitter sweet comedy about the lives of a group of people living in a converted church in New England. Don't let prejudices about hippies or 60s movies put you off. An excellent 'must see' classic film, based on the epic Arlo Guthrie song of the same name.

Adapted from the classic, absurdist, anti-war novel by Joseph Heller. "Catch-22" is the story of Yossarian, a pilot who trys to opt out of flying bombing missions by being declared insane, the catch being that anyone trying to avoid bombing missions by being insane must be sane. This dark classic catches much of the flavour of the book, the insanity, the corruption and the absurdity of war. Think MASH, but non-linear - flawed but awesome.

The classic science-fiction film that brought us Robbie The Robot. When a space cruiser is sent to investigate the silence from a planet inhabited by scientists, the crew find all but two of the inhabitants, Professor Morbius and his bewitchingly innocent daughter, have died. Morbius has made a discovery and he has no intention of sharing it (or his daughter!) with anyone. Classy kitsch.

A very strange little number which was released, then immediately withdrawn in 1932 to remain banned for over fifty years. Still pretty disturbing today, despite the triumph of the various aesthetically-challenged "freaks" over their so-called normal tormenters, showing the revenge taken by a group of circus freaks on a beautiful trapeze artist and her strongman lover after they have tried to kill a midget for his fortune.

A sexually voracious former child star moves into a sleazy Hollywood motel whilst searching for film work. The place is run by a lecherous proprietress and inhabited by various oddballs, all of whom have designs on our hero, Joe. Luckily for everybody he's none too fussy. Low budget Warhol romp.

The 1960s and tradition is teetering on the edge, a group of minor public school boys can't hack it any more and rebellion brews. Discovering a cache of automatic weapons, they revolt bloodily against the establishment around them, from the rooftop they engage in a firefight with the teachers and other students, who are armed with the Army Cadet training rifles. A classic of the English cinema... rise up all teens.
