1560, Peru. In a beautiful poetic opening scene the conquistadors cross an Andes pass, situated between the peaks and the valleys, between conquered land and unexplored forests, between 'heaven' and 'earth', shrouded in mists, they make their way down a narrow path. Aguirre's meglomania grows as around him his comrades mutiny and die in his search for the lost city of El Dorado. Herzog's best film, an unforgetable tour de force. Made before the director himself gave in to meglomania on a later t find out more...

A very weird little Aussie number, winner of the Grand Jury Special Prize at Venice. Bubby is 35-years-old but has never been outside the squalid flat where he lives incestuously with his grotesque mother... until the day his Pa returns to the nest. Tasteless and disturbing, but compulsive viewing. find out more...
CATCH-22 (1970)

Certification15 Our Rating

Adapted from the classic, absurdist, anti-war novel by Joseph Heller. "Catch-22" is the story of Yossarian, a pilot who trys to opt out of flying bombing missions by being declared insane, the catch being that anyone trying to avoid bombing missions by being insane must be sane. This dark classic catches much of the flavour of the book, the insanity, the corruption and the absurdity of war. Think MASH, but non-linear - flawed but awesome. find out more...

PI (1998)

Bizarre but brilliant mathematical mystery, shot in black & white and set to a nervy, industrial soundtrack. Max Cohen (Sean Gullette) is a bit of an oddball; either a misunderstood techno genius, or just the sort of weirdo who sits with his hood up at the back of the bus, depending on your tolerance levels. Living in a computer-filled slum in a world which, to his eyes, is no more than a series of numerical equations, Max stumbles across a seemingly meaningless 216 digit number. But when two si find out more...

Made eight years after Psycho, Perkins again plays a mentally disturbed young man. Just released from an institution for, as a teenager, burning down his aunt's house with her inside, he lives in a fantasy world, pretending he's a CIA agent. This seems to work brilliantly as a chat up line for he picks up a beautiful, but very gullible, all American small town girl. This is a pure mix of Hitchcock and 60s rebellion. Watch it. find out more...

Eat your heart out David Lynch! This movie has it all - sex, mutilation, religion, obsession, revenge and a circus which makes Archaos look like a branch of the Young Conservatives. The plot defies description, suffice to say it is perversely funny, grotesquely bizarre and definitely not family viewing. find out more...

After a passionate one night stand Peter, already an obnoxious swine, is convinced he's been turned into a vampire. Donning plastic fangs and sleeping under the sofa, his behaviour grows ever more outrageous as he cruelly terrorises his wretched Hispanic secretary.
