Sellers' last film is his masterpiece. A simple-minded gardener named Chance has spent all his life in the Washington DC house of an old man. When the man dies, Chance is put out on the street with no knowledge of the world except what he has learned from television. After a run in with a limousine, he ends up a guest of Eve and her husband Ben, an influential but sickly businessman. Now called Chauncey Gardner, Chance becomes friend and confidante to Ben, and an unlikely political insider. It's

LIFE OF BRIAN (1979)
Certification15 Our Rating
Brilliant Monty Python skit on the life of Christ which also takes a few swipes at the sectarian nature of British left wing political parties. Brian never wanted to be a messiah but fame is thrust upon him. Caused a huge outcry when it was released. Still banned in the Republic of Ireland!!

NUTS IN MAY (1980)
CertificationPG Our Rating
A brilliant film the by same director as 'Abigail's Party'. Keith Pratt is the last of the Boy Scouts and with his equally ridiculous wife Candice Marie, they set out on the wilds of a Dorset campsite for their hols, but their health food and knitted way of life don't quite fit in. Darkly funny and eminently quotable, it's a home grown joy of unparalleled quality.

What do you do if you can't have a baby? Simple - steal one from someone with too many! The trouble is that's where your problems REALLY begin, especially given a pair of ex-cons and a Rambo-like baby-repo-man! Slapstick satire and farce in this bizarre and unrelenting comedy. Another Coen gem.

THIS IS SPINAL TAP (1984)
Certification15 Our Rating
An inspired and brilliant mockumentary recounting the history of a crap British heavy metal group and following them on a disastrous tour of the US. This movie takes apart every cliche that ever graced a rock documentary and every vanity or folly to haunt overblown rock groups. So realistic that American audiences thought the band was real... Voted third funniest film by Observer readers in a 2007 poll.

WITHNAIL AND I (1987)
Certification15 Our Rating
It's 1969 and the end of an era. Withnail and ‘I' are two "resting" actors enjoying a decadent lifestyle in Camden on a diet of booze and drugs. Finding themselves in need of rejuvenation, they set off on holiday to the country cottage of Withnail's mad uncle Monty in Penrith. A sharp and witty romp, and one of the greatest, and quintessentially British, films of all time.
