A dead (murdered?) stranger is found in the woods near a Vermont village and various villagers can think of good reasons for his death to be kept secret from the authorities and, by force of circumstances, end up burying and continually re-burying the same body. Who really did it? A thriller with a comic bent, featuring an early performance by Shirley Maclaine, and one of Hitchcock's first true comedies.
