When Walter Armbruster arrives in Italy to claim his dad's body, it soon becomes apparent that the archetypal patriarch had been leading a double life. Wilder's screenplay sparkles as do the three central characters, so a big thumbs-up for this sadly underrated comic masterpiece.

Elizabeth is a teacher; she drinks, she gets high, she hates her pupils and she can’t wait to marry her meal ticket and get out of her bogus day job. When a rich, handsome substitute teacher appears on the scene Liz sees her chance, but competing for his affections is an overly energetic and anal colleague, Amy. A pretty generic ‘I see the error of my ways’ romantic comedy but Diaz in particular makes the whole thing a lot of fun....who’d a guessed.

A frustrated, highly strung, spectacularly unsuccessful puppeteer inadvertently finds a passage way into the mind of John Malkovich and, uniquely skilled as he is in the art of manipulation, this seems like the perfect opportunity to escape his dead-end life and dull wife. There is little point in trying to explain the story further, you'll just have to watch this fantastically surreal, absurd, dark, gobsmackingly original comedy - the brainchild of a quite obviously seriously warped puppy.
