A wonderfully serene and charming comedy, the third instalment of the saga of Antoine Doinel, in which he wanders into a job as a private investigator, and then falls hopelessly and unrealistically in love with a client's wife. Classically Truffaut, with a gentle, wandering narrative, fantastic cinematography (Paris the summer of 1968) and some very funny dialogue. A real corker.

However all could change when he meets Liz and discovers that he may be able to escape into a new, bearable reality. A Brit classic that can be classified as 'kitchen sink' - the comedy.

Billie Dawn is the dumb chirpy blonde girlfriend of dodgy millionaire Harry Brock. Harry has set his sights on a bit of social climbing and finds that his ditzy girlfriend is in danger of being an embarrassment to these ambitions. The collection opens with Len Lye's modernist abstraction ‘Tusalava’, which, heavily influenced by Maori and Aboriginal art, shares an interest in ‘primitive’ cultures that was typical of the Modernist movement of the time. It was almost refused a certificate by the puzzled British Board of Censors who suspected that the dancing abstract shapes might be about sex. Lye's own explanation was that it showed the beginnings of organic life.

"Carnal Knowledge" is a bitter-sweet comedy about sex, morality and, perhaps, even love. As interesting for the attitudes of the time as for the unfolding story itself.

Adapted from the classic, absurdist, anti-war novel by Joseph Heller. "Catch-22" is the story of Yossarian, a pilot who trys to opt out of flying bombing missions by being declared insane, the catch being that anyone trying to avoid bombing missions by being insane must be sane. This dark classic catches much of the flavour of the book, the insanity, the corruption and the absurdity of war. Think MASH, but non-linear - flawed but awesome.
