Set in a Paris hotel this comic tribute to the noir B-movie follows the efforts of a ridiculously incompetent detective trying to solve a murder with the dubious assistance of his inspector nephew. The moody 28-year-old Mifune is the violent gangster whom boozy doctor Shimura diagnoses as suffering from TB ('a hole in the heart,' says the sour 'angel', ruefully).
