This knowing teen flick brings Hawthorn'e The Scarlet Letter to the Facebook generation. Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson relish their roles as Californian-to-the-max parents while the man candy is provided by Gossip Girl's Penn Badgley. At times the film tries too hard to be audacious and falls flat, at others it shows flashes of brilliant comedy. A mixed bag of good intentions.

A delightful and daringly sentimental parable of a man who has the courage to pursue his dreams. Goosebump city.
