13 HOURS (2015)

Midway through Michael Bay’s 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, interrupting its bizarre mix of war pornography and dour isolationist posturing, there’s a shoehorned moment of mawkishness. Jack (John Krasinski) is one of the ex-armed forces contractors taking a babysitting job as security to CIA specialists halfway around the world. He’s Skyping w find out more...

An ex-mercenary known for finding missing children is hired by a mixed martial arts fighter whose daughter has been kidnapped.
Something of a return to form for post-'JCVD' Van Damme. If you're missing the muscles from Brussels doing what he does best (no, not drug-induced breakdowns...) then get on this.

BASIC (2003)

Tom Hardy is an ex army ranger turned disgraced DEA agent. An old army buddy asks Tom to come down and investigate the disappearance of super hard special forces instructor Sgt Nathan West after a jungle exercise goes horribly wrong, and not overwhelmed with offers of work Tom happily accepts. So twisty turny it pretty much loses its own plot, Basic is an incoherent tale but a slick action thriller, with two of the big screens most charismatic (and paycheque hungry) stars. find out more...

As America burns it’s left to a rag tag group of Marines to pull out survivors, and generally save the day, in-between dying pretty God damn heroically. OK so Battle: Los Angeles is generic to a tee and some of the dialogue is excruciating, but this is a crackingly relentless action movie, and if it wasn’t as preposterous as it is, it probably wouldn’t be as mu find out more...

Chris Burnett is a cocky US Navy pilot disillusioned with the tedious reality of his job. While flying over Bosnia on a reconnaissance mission he is shot down and so begins the adventure of his life as he runs from one near death experience to the next, attempting to reach a rescue rendezvous before he is killed for the UN violations he has witnessed. Behind Enemy Lines is a preposterously jingoistic and cheesy slab of Hollywood cinema, but despite some stomach churning lines and an instrumental find out more...

After escaping the massacre of a boat load of refugees fleeing toward Allied lines, Rachel, alone, bereft and terrified, joins the Resistance and, using her feminine wiles and intelligence, infiltrates the lair of those responsible for her grief. Three young Hong Kong hustlers move to Saigon to try and profit, smuggling penicillin and gold, from the war, but their friendship is tested to the limits through greed, betrayal and lust, amid the horrors of a war-torn Vietnam. Comparable to the 'Deer Hunter', this violent epic is the most ambitiously personal and political of John Woo's films, but still comes packed with guns, explosives and balletic action. find out more...
