JK Rowling's all conquering apprentice wizard gets his first film outing. Enrolled at Hogwarts school of wizardry and witchcraft the young Harry is soon up to his neck with trolls, evil wizards and hockey on a broomstick. 'The Philosopher's Stone' is a slick entry to the world of Harry Potter, not quite as engaging as it could have been, but an amiable way to while away a couple of hours.

Tom is just your average geezer, but after he is hypnotised at a party he begins to see horrific visions, as they intensify he begins to realise he is witnessing a real and hideous crime. The desire to escape his new-found powers becomes swamped by the overpowering desire to solve the mystery, though the consequences may well be fatal. Stir of Echoes is a very good, dark, psychological thriller.
